Silence by Severine(NC-17+)

  • Mar. 21st, 2010 at 1:39 PM
Fandom: LIFE ON MARS
Pairing: minor character/Sam, unrequited Sam/Gene
Length: 6500
Author on LJ:[info]severinne
Author Website: a list of the author’s fic can be found here

Why this must be read:

Although devastating and dark, this story is beautifully written (much like all of this author’s work) with characterisations that are complex and so utterly perfect that, in the context of the plot, they are completely gut-wrenching.

There isn’t much more that I can say except that this story is a prime example of the high quality of writing that exists in this fandom.

Note: The author warns for "Dub-con/rape, minor character death, and dark, morally unflattering portrayals of both Gene and Sam"

Fandom: HARD CORE LOGO
Pairing: Billy/Joe
Length: 238 words
Author on LJ: [info]verushka70

Why this must be read: because Verushka is an terrific writer who manages to capture the heart and soul of the fucked-up relationship that Billy and Joe have. Here she manages to capture a rare moment of not-anger between them and it's real and believable.

How about Logic vs Insanity?

Logical Half human/Vulcan woman descendant of Alice Kingsley herself, of course it is set in 23rd century or the early days of the federation (Hence before Spock was born) Anyway the Kingsley House hold is about to be destroyed and since she is one of the last descendants. She has lost her bond mate to ponfarr and it has left her mentally scarred as a Vulcan, and she has strayed away toward towards V'tosh ka'tur" ("Vulcan without logic". She is shame from her family on Vulcan, and really the Human world does not care for her either. With her mother (vulcan) on Vulcan and her human father dead ( a kingsley) T'karra-Hath Kinsley decide it was illogical for destroy a treasure of her ancestry.
She is a black haired, blue eyed Vulcan ( a rarity) and looks remarkable like Alice Kingsley. She was out studying earth flora in the garden when she discovered the large rabbit hole, and T'karra payed it no mind and the hole enlarged and sucked her in. In you guess a illogical adventure of madness, may

Any way I want to explore human nature (on the Tarrant ) human? (if he is) and Vulcan. Logic cool vulcan smacks in to insanity, moods and emotions. T'karra is untimely pitted in a world that is against every a Vulcan is trained from birth.

Tarrant sees this elfin creature as replica of Alice , at first he is sorely pitted against an cold emotionless creature. But he soon to see there is more to her and her Vulcan layers.

i see Tarrant as primal because he are a passionate insane person, but let see if he can tangle with Mind melds and a twist of Vulcan Ponfarr ( i realize this in is only in Vulcan Males, but Vulcan females if it is unresolved when their bond mates die)

I am sorry but I love a good challenging story (SMEXY) of course)

"Yeah, can't keep their hands off each other." Miller's higher voice carried almost as loudly. "I thought you were kiddin me about that, but geez, I don't think I've grabbed my wife that much in a month."

Weapon of Choice, by cupidsbow.

  • Mar. 20th, 2010 at 8:59 PM
Fandom: TORCHWOOD
Pairing: No Pairing
Length: ~ 630 words
Author on LJ: [info]cupidsbow
Author Website: Story Listings
Why this must be read:

I really love the concept of the story, and the execution. It manages to cast an intriguing light on canon. What struck me the most though was the amount of characterization [info]cupidsbow managed to give a character that is barely acknowledged in canon. A truly chilling piece of science fiction.

It was strange enough to think that Norah knew who I was before I knew who she was. That she'd been in Tris's orbit without me noticing. But I guess you don't see the planets when you're staring at the sun. You just get blinded.

Title: Perspective
Fandom: Alice in Wonderland (Tim Burton)
Pairing: Alice/Hatter
Rating: PG-13
Notes: Although this, too, is a stand-alone, it can be read as a companion piece to Before and After. Sorting out the nuts and bolts of Tarrant's ways of thinking about Alice is incredibly fascinating to me at the moment, so there you are. I'm going to dispense with the pronoun tomfoolery in this instance, however, as it kind of destroys my focus (which tells me that Tarrant's mind is extraordinary indeed, to be able to keep all the nuances straight). Writing abnormal psychology is harder work.
Summary: Between too small and too tall lies the truth.

Out of the Black- Chapter 4

  • Mar. 20th, 2010 at 7:50 AM

Title: Out of the Black
Chapter: 4/8 + Epilogue
Fandom: Battlestar Galactica/Firefly
Rating: PG-13
Characters: Ensemble, both shows. Very Kara-centric and Lee-centric, somewhat Roslin-centric
Pairings: Mostly gen, with canon pairings (Kara/Lee primarily, with mentions of Kara/Sam, Lee/Dee, Adama/Roslin, Helo/Athena) and Kaylee/Tyrol
Summary: Just before the jump to Earth, the Fleet comes into contact with a small transport ship of non-Colonial origins. (AU after Revelations)
Spoilers: Up to and including Season 4.5 for BSG and the Big Damn Movie for Firefly.
Author's Note: I wrote the original Out of the Black over a year ago, and looking back was not pleased with it at all, there was so much I wanted to do with the story that I just didn't pull off and so I decided to rewrite it, do more justice to both of the stories I wanted to tell. The original story is still archived at [info]ootbverse and will remain there. If you have read the original, I welcome you to read this new version of the story as it does take a different direction from the original. Beta'd by [info]taragel . All information on the 'Verse detailed in this fic has been taken from the Map of the Verse poster and the Atlas of the Verse booklet.

Hi!

  • Mar. 20th, 2010 at 1:25 AM
My slash goggles are on so tight I can't take them off anymore, and Disney is sooooo good at providing us with the subtext and questionable moments, amirite? At the moment I'm obsessed with Aladdin and I could pair him up with anyone, but Genie and Mozenrath are my favorites for him. I've a picture to share with you!

Hey everyone,
I found this community by randomly searching the interweb and I absolutely ADORE it. So I decided to make a livejournal.
Hopefully I will be able to post some stories on here as I write them but I have this fear that I will leave the character too much out of character to make it believable :/. Oh well.
My current love is Charlotte/Tiana. They're just so damn cute together! *sigh*

Minor GSW question

  • Mar. 20th, 2010 at 12:08 AM
I've read through all the GSW posts (as well as Googled, checked out TV tropes, and read the wikipedia articles on ballistic trauma) and got some interesting information, but not exactly what I'm looking for.

I have a hostage situation where the villain is going to shoot one character in the shoulder (to cause severe damage to the joint), but another character pushes the first character out of the way, surprising the villain, and is hit instead. This takes place at close range and the villain is a good shot (it's a handgun, the bullets are full metal jacket). I want the character who is actually shot to require a few days of recovery/hospital time with maybe a couple of weeks of minor issues (lighter workload, not able to use one arm as much), or less. I read in another post a few years ago that someone suggested having the shot go through the arm and hit the bicep, which would only require an overnight hospital stay and some time in a sling? This might work, but I'd like to know more about what the treatment process would be like if possible.

Same situation, but later, the villain shoots another character from across the room in the upper body (chest/shoulder area or arm), and the bullet goes straight through without causing any serious damage. What would the treatment for this be like? Would they have to go to the hospital, and if so, how long would they stay? What lasting effects would there be?

as if I wasn't there

  • Mar. 20th, 2010 at 3:54 PM
For theory, we each got assigned a reading, and we have to summarise/report our understanding of it and post online to help each other with our big end-of-term assignment. I do not even UNDERSTAND my reading. It's due Monday. Along with two other things, and I have two more due by Friday. *pulls out hair* On the plus side, I don't have to go in on Monday, GNW isn't on to distract me (or cheer me up :(), and Tuesdays lecture is all about Sherlock Holmes.

Oh, and here, this is amazing. Fun Ferret Fact #242 )
